Waving from The Frozen Land of Brrrr… In the midst of a winter blizzard Thursday, dodging power outages and slow internet connections, I published Miz Spelled in the Amazon Kindle Unlimited program. At the same time, I temporarily price dropped Call Me Miz to $ .99. Thank you everyone for all the encouraging comments that helped me relaunch my Bitter Creek Holler series.
Below I’m sharing the synopsis and cover for the next (never pubbed before) book in the series. (Another cover find at SelfPubBookCovers.com) At the end of Miz Spelled, I left Shep Buchanan fouled by twisted magic and in a befuddled state. Thank heavens there’s more than one Hess woman to call on for help. Cousin Rhee specializes in healing on the metaphysical plane.
Rhee leaned on the porch rail and gazed at the naked man who had been a bear moments before. Even though she had absolutely no interest in Shep Buchanan’s physical form, she could not refrain from admiring his backside as he trudged away—taut thigh muscles, nice rump, long back, broad shoulders.
The miniature dachshund in Rhee’s arms yipped when she squeezed him too hard and she loosened her grip. “Sorry, Godie; I’m excited.”
At his doubtful whine, she hugged him and murmured softly,“What’s not to like, buddy? No rent, a new client, and a cozy place to lie-low. And who knows,” she added, her tone remaining the same though cynical words spilled from her lips. “After Shep finds his pants and retrieves his wallet, maybe we’ll all live happily ever after.”

Synopsis (under construction suggestions welcomed):
People are mean, life is hard, and then you die. Grab as much as you can on the way through. The Rhee Hess mantra for survival has reaped very little happiness for her and sown lots of discord. When her cousin, Missouri Hess asks for help, Rhee is already dodging a drug dealer, a repo man who’s after her new Harley, and a government agent who claims he’s from the IRS. Bitter Creek Holler seems like a great place to lie-low, and lending a helping hand to Miz’s neighbor might be Rhee’s ticket to gold.
Shep Buchanan is the perfect head of a secret government agency collecting information on paranormal and magical beings. His normally placid personality leaves him cool-headed and thoughtful, he can’t be bribed because he’s a billionaire with no need for money, and since he carries all the top secret files he manages in his head, they’re safe—until he’s attacked with a death hex spell and loses his wits. Enter Rhee Hess, mind healer, spirit weaver, and reluctant mate of a thousand pound werebear.

No interest, huh? I think her dog might know otherwise!
Love that last line! It’s priceless! Great snippet, and congrats on the release. (The weather is a real pain lately, isn’t it?)
“yipped when she squeezed him too hard ” … Excited? LOL … great line. And holy smokes, great cover, too!
Ha! I love this line: “Even though she had absolutely no interest in Shep Buchanan’s physical form, she could not refrain from admiring his backside.” Terrific cover. 🙂
Lol, great snippet. With only a few words you draw a great picture and the way she holds her dog says a lot about her true feelings;).
Congratulations on publishing book 2!
Where do I start. Loved the description of Shep. Also I love that she was admiring his body so much that she squeezed poor Godie too hard lol. Great snippet.
Let me count the ways I so admire your writing, Gem. A WOW of a snippet. I like,”cynical words spilled from her lips.” I’ve got a court scene to write. Mind if I borrow this?
I loved the snippet down to the last line! But poor Godie getting squeezed in all the excitement. lol Too funny.
Fantastic snippet, Gem. Love Rhee’s spark. She sounds like the perfect companion for a grumpy bear. 😀

Looks like a fun, sexy story. Great cover.
I think I like the bear’s human form better. He sounds just delicious.
This is great. It’s got a perfect blend of steam and snark– plus a little dog for comic relief. Nice!
I love that ending, happy ever after, isn’t that everybody’s main goal!
