This week I’m sharing another snippet from Trouble in Disguise, Eclipse Heat Book 6.
Miri figured it was time to find out who was following her. She camped for the night, built a small fire and made a show of grooming Possum before fading into the surrounding shadows with Ketchum leading the way in their investigation. Any predators lurking in her path scurried away at the approach of the big wolf guiding her.
She and Ketchum were squirming on their bellies on the ground using the twilight and half darkness for cover when her quarry struck a lucifer and lit his cigar.
“Lose something?” Deacon drawled.
She felt like a fool. Ketchum growled at the same time his tail thumped. Evidently her wolf couldn’t decide whether to bite Deacon McCallister or lick him. She had the same problem.

Since both his partners have married and retired from the hunt, Deacon McCallister is alone when he visits the Pleasure Dome, an infamous brothel in Fort Worth’s Hell’s Half Acre. He’s tracking a counterfeiter but what he finds is TROUBLE—dressed in a man’s ruffled shirt and nothing more.
Bounty hunter Miracle Beauregard calls herself Beau and for years has fooled the general public about her gender. But underneath Miri’s disguise, beats a feminine heart in lust for Deacon McCallister. Though she spends a lot of time dreaming about her rival, she never expects to act upon her longings.
When Miri follows an outlaw to the fanciest whorehouse in Texas and crosses paths with her heart’s desire, she trades her buckskins for bare skin to play the part of Deacon’s paid companion. But, she’s wrong when she thinks her time with Deacon will be just once. After she leaves her bounty hunter rival behind, she discovers he’s so enthralled by his one night lover, he’s on the hunt to find her again—and he’s got forever on his mind.

Interesting choices she’s facing. I bet she’ll end up doing neither … at least not right away.
I’m intrigued to know more. That’s quite an attraction. 🙂
I like this–looks like everybody’s afraid of the big, bad wolf.
How funny! Bite him or lick him!
Love that last line! What a dilemma. 🙂
Well that clearly didn’t work out right! Really enjoyed the snippet, loved the wolf’s reaction as well.
I love the image of her creeping around on her belly and him being aware of what she’s doing the entire time. And yet she still wants to lick him. Fun snippet!
Laughing at the last line.
Epic fail on the trap, but I doubt it’ll slow Miri down. And I suspect she’ll do both to Deacon before their story is all over. Love your characters, Gem!
Gem, nobody does it better. Your Western stories are totally Yum. I’m for licking.
Decisions, decisions. Great snippet! Tweeted.
Love that last sentence, Gem. Such opposite responses summed up so off-handedly. Understatement is a wicked writing trick, especially since we all got it.
Haha …. bite him or lick him … great snippet.
The end was so funny, maybe she should ask him what he prefers.
What and attraction. Want to know more.
I love everything about this snippet. Especially the last line and the “struck a Lucifer” bit. Great snippet! I’m liking the wolf too, one of my favorite animals.
🙂 Nice snippet! Good visual of the belly crawl–and then to have him watching them all along. Excellent. I agree with Charmaine–I vote for licking. lol
