Horse and Carriage

Sarah stood outside the shed watching me groom Clarence. I couldn’t leave the lean-to without walking past her, a thing I didn’t want to do.

“Langdon needs you, Maggie. He sent me to fetch you,” she called to me. Her mouth moved and the words were spoken in a voice I recognized as hers. I might have believed and rushed to join her had her head not listed to the side in an odd way.

Sarah’s dead, I reminded myself. Nevertheless, a facsimile of what she’d been, floated outside the door waiting for me.

Weekend Writing Warriors

Hi to all.  Somewhere outside last week, while weed-eating around the utility barn and the fish pond, I acquired poison ivy. Yuck! Wish I could get Maggie Jenks to visit and make it go away. *BG* Today, I’m sharing another eight sentences from my Old West healer/shifter story,  Blood Stoned.

From Blood Stoned~

Drip…Drip…Drip…

Blood trickled from my nose, over my lip, and fell with a splat on the back of my hand.

Fascinated, I watched the bloodstone slide across the table, stop when it reached my clenched fist, rub against the blood that had fallen, and pulse with dark magic as it fed.

I shuddered, but my disgust didn’t prevent me from scooping up the hex stone to hold in a tight grip.

Who. Did. I. Heal? I demanded answers from myself, pushing at the magical bindings that locked secrets in my mind.

“Show me,” I snarled and felt the bloodstone’s power clear a path to the truth. I closed my eyes, sinking into the vision.
