Hi everyone. How’s your weather? Sun worshiper than I am, I’m reading the gardening catalogs for early plantings, hoping we can consider winter finished and get on with spring.

Since my River’s Edge artist’s voyeuristic activities were exposed last week (last week’s scene) I’m finishing the scene in this week’s snippet. The Unlikely Gentlemen series found its name because of former gunslinger Edge Grayson’s actions here. Last line last week–“Come down from there now or I start shooting.”
(From) Rivers’s Edge
“Please go away,” River shouted, and thankfully, the sound of her voice identifying her gender seemed to jar him a bit.
“You coming down?” he growled, lowering his gun as he pulled on his trousers and stepped into his boots before walking toward the willow.
“No,” she answered, estimating the distance to the ground from the limb where she perched; she might have to jump and run.
“Guess I’ll have to come up to meet you, then.” The tree swayed under his weight as he began to climb.
“I’d rather you didn’t,” she called to him.
“I’d rather peeping-toms didn’t watch me bathe; it appears we all get disappointed sometimes,” he drawled, his voice holding an unexpected edge of humor, as if he thought the situation funny.
“In point of fact, you’re trespassing,” River protested, prepared to defend herself with the broken pencil stub.
“That I am; beg pardon.” Hearing her words, he paused in his climb and instead of arguing or continuing up the tree, began a retreat.
River Prescott has everything she’s ever wanted – except perhaps a man. The unconventional ranch owning artist is very certain she doesn’t want a husband. But sometimes she can’t help wishing for a lover; especially after her new neighbor trespasses and she gets a full-frontal view of his assets.
Edge Grayson moves onto the rundown spread he’s inherited, expecting to stay aloof from nearby town business. But between local artist, River Prescott’s determination to seduce him and protecting her from a killer on the prowl, the ex-gunslinger is finding respectability a lot more dangerous than his former life of sin.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Have a great week!
I’m glad he is going down. What the hell did he think he could do up there anyway? Plus the tree doesn’t seem to be too happy about having two people in it.
Well, looks like they both caught each other in a situation. I wonder if she really wants him to leave. Nice snippet! 🙂
I like that he retreats when he does; clearly she found the right button to push. It makes me wonder why trespassing is such a no-no for him.
I’m curious why her words about trespassing made him change his mind about continuing his climb to meet her. Intrigued.
“it appears we all get disappointed sometimes,” ha! Great snippet
Oh, I do love a cowboy!! Seems she got more than she bargained for. Hope she got a good . . . sketch! Love her spunk! What a way to meet your neighbor!
Enjoyed the excerpt, especially because the encounter doesn’t go the way one might expect, from him climbing the tree onward! Terrific!
Hmmm, commented and then it disappeared so forgive me if I’ve now commented twice. Enjoyed the excerpt, especially because the events don’t go exactly the way we might expect, starting with him climbing the tree!
Since she’s already seen his frontal view, the race is on. Well written as always, Gem.
This was a ton of fun. I kind of wish he’d kept climbing. Can’t wait to read more.
Haha! You know I pictured Sam Elliot climbing that danged tree. He’s getting pretty old for that stuff. 😉
Just bought it (on Amazon) and told them about the lower prices. Maybe it will help another buyer. Looking forward to your story. 🙂
I would think hiding in a tree would make her wish to be alone clear. Of course, that wouldn’t make for much of a story, would it? 😉
At least he seems to be admitting he’s in the wrong. Now it would be nice if he helped her down.
I love that she was preparing to defend herself with a pencil stub. LOL
Great snippet! I love that throwaway line, “I’d rather you didn’t.” Cracked me up. Nicely crafted scene.
Loved the dialogue, the wit, the humour -perfect … and what an interesting couple,
This is a great, fun snippet in every way. Nice work!
I loved this story. It always made me laugh at their snarky interactions. Great snippet, Gem. 🙂
Love her fiesty pencil stub defense and his backing down, like a true cowboy. Great snippet!
